يتحدث الكتاب عن مشاكل البشرية البيئية خلال الحقب الأخيرة بمعدلات كبيرة ومتفاوتة، ولكن هناك مشكلات عامة مثل اختلال التوازنات الطبيعية والجهل بالتعامل الاطلاقي مع الموارد الطبيعية ومشكلة التزايد السكاني ومشكلة التلوث البيئي (الماء والهواء والغذاء)، واضمحلال طبقة الأوزون إن تركتنا من هذا القرن تركة ثقيلة، ولكن أسباب هذه التركة قد أقمناها بأيدينا، فنتيجة نقل التكنولوجيا الصناعية مثلا، دون الإلمام الجيد بهذه التكنولوجيا أدى لحدوث التلوث الصناعي بصور ومعدلات متزايدة وخطيرة، ولكن لو ناقشنا ثقب الأوزون فهو نتيجة عامة للتكنولوجيا الصناعية والزراعية على مستوى العالم. من هنا، فيحتم علينا ضميرنا أن نقف وقفة تأمل محاولين حل المشاكل المحيطة، ولو بدرجة تمنع تزايدها إن لم تكن تقللها بدرجات كبيرة ولكن متفاوتة.
