يقدم لنا الدكتور زكريا إبراهيم مجموعة من الدراسات الجمالية القيمة في الفن والفنان، والعمل الفني. وهو يحاول في هذا الكتاب الدفاع عن دور الصنعة في الفن، فيصف الفنان بفوله إنه \" الفنان هو الرجل الصانع الذي يفكر بيده، ويتصارع مع المادة، ويزاول مهنته في صبر وجلد، ويقدم لنا إنتاجا لا يتحقق إلا بعد تردد وتعثر ولكن الكاتب يؤكد من جهة أخرى أن الفنان هو ذلك \"الإنسان\" الذي يبحث دائما عن \"القيم\" الجديدة، فهو يزيد إحساسنا بالحياة، وحب الحياة، وليس نداء الفن سوى تلك الصرخة التي تهيب بالإنسان أن يكون حرا، وأن يكتشه \"الإنسان الباطني فيه: أعني ذلك \"المخلوق الخالق\" الكامن في أحشائه.
