يناقش الكتاب في صفحاته كيفية أن الدين حقيقة مطلقة قادمة من خارج الاجتماع غير قابلة للتغير في حين يشير تاريخ الأديان التوحيدية إلى ارتباط وثيق بين الاجتماع والدين وخصوصا في التشريع وتشير صفحات الكتاب إلى أنه على مستوى الديانات الثلاث وفي كثير من الحالات كان هذا التسرب يتخذ شكل النص أي الوحي المتحول على الله عمدا أو على سبيل الخلط الناجم عن تداخل المفاهيم وهكذا أدى التدين إلى تضخيم الدين، بحيث صار ما هو اجتماعي أكبر مما هو مطلق في منطوق البنية الدينية التي تعمم على مكوناتها تلقائيا صفة القداسة المؤبدة.
