تتعدد المتاحف في مصر، وربما كان أكبرها وأهمها، هو المتحف الذي يتم إنشاءه الآن تحت اسم (المتحف المصري الكبير)، والذي سيضم 100 ألف قطعة آثار من تاريخ مصر الممتد عبر قرون عديدة، والذي سيقام في سفح أهرامات الجيزة، والذي تم نقل تمثال رمسيس الثاني من ميدان رمسيس إليه، كما سيتم إنشاء متحف الحضارة الجديد بالقاهرة كأضخم متحف حضارة في العالم، وبين المشاريع المتحفية الجديدة في مصر، متحف للآثار الغارقة بمنطقة الميناء الشرقي بالإسكندرية أمام مكتبة الإسكندرية، وسيكون أول متحف في مصر يقام تحت سطح البحر، حيث سيتجول الزائر داخل أنابيب شفافة أو ينظر من قاع زجاجي لسفينة مجهزة بتجهيزات خاصة علي هذه الآثار الغارقة للإسكندرية القديمة، كما سيضاف إلي هذه المتاحف الجديدة، متحف للروائي العالمي نجيب محفوظ يجمع تراثه الروائي والشخصي.
