ارتبط حياة أطفالنا باللعب، حيث يتعلمون ويكتسبون من خلاله معظم سلوكاتهم الحياتية، واللعب يترك بصمات واضحة على ملامح شخصية الطفل، وبالتالي يشكل مخزونا معرفيا يرتبط بفهمه والعديد من الألعاب تثير تفكير الطفل ذلك النشاط العقلى المركب والهادف، والذى توجهه رغبة قوية في البحث عن حلول أو التوصل إلى نواتج أصلية للعبة التي يمارسها، ولما كانت الألعاب يهدفها القديم الحديث أداة فاعلة من أدوات تعليم التفكير أو التدريب عليه فهي تعتمد عليه ولا تنفصل عنه، وهو هدفها الأسمى ونتاجها، ولكون اللعب يسير في خطوات منظمة يمر بها كل لاعب أثناء لعبة، فإنه يعد نظاما يسعى إلى اكتساب الطفل مزيدا من المعرفة التي لا يمكن التوصل إليها إلا من خلال التفكير.
