في هذه المحاضرة يحاول الدكتور عدنان السيد حسين أن يتحقق من ارتباط التضخم السكاني بتقويض السلم الدولي، ويناقش من هذا المنطلق ثلاثة جوانب أساسية هي : التوزيع السكاني في نهاية القرن العشرين، والتضخم السكاني وعلاقته بالنزاعات العرقية، والتضخم السكاني والسلم الدولي. ويقول الدكتور حسين إن التضخم السكاني في النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين. وبالذات في دول الجنوب، قاد إلى دراسة علاقة النمو السكاني بالسلم الدولي، إذ إن الاكتظاظ والكثافة يقودان إلى العنف والتوتر الداخلي. وبناء على معطيات النمو السكاني السريع في العالم، فإن من الضرورة بمكان أن يتم استعراض هذه القضايا باستفاضة.
