يتناول كتاب التاريخ الدبلوماسي الذي قام بتأليفه لويس دوللو في حدود 151 صفحة من القطع المتوسط يقدم الكتاب دراسة لثلاثة مراحل مرت بها الدبلوماسية عبر التاريخ، الأولى تمثل التاريخ الدبلوماسي في الفترة الواقعة بين 1789-1870 والثانية 1870-1918، حيث تجاوز إطار الحياة الدبلوماسية قارة أوروبا ليمتد تدريجيا إلى العالم بأجمعه، وأما الفترة الأخيرة فقد تناولت دراسة حوادث السنوات الخمسين الأخيرة على ضوء الظروف الراهنة.
