إن الناظر في تاريخ أمتنا الإسلامية يجد أنه بحر زاخر برجالاته في شتى مجالات المعرفة فمنهم نجوم في علوم التفسير وكواكب درية في علوم السنة النبوية المطهرة، ولآلي في الفقه ودرر في علوم الشريعة .. إلى غير ذلك، ومعا نتوقف مع طائفة من رجالات التاريخ الإسلامي وهم حكماء الإسلام والحكيم : ذو الحكمة والحكمة عبارة عن معرفة أفضل الأشياء بأفضل العلوم ويقال لمن يحسن دقائق الصناعات ويتقنها : حكيم، فنقد للمكتبة الإسلامية كتاب تاريخ حكماء الإسلام للبيهقي وهو كتاب يعرض لنا نماذج من رجالات التاريخ الإسلامي في علوم الطب والهندسة والفلك .. وما شابه ذلك، ونتوقف هنا للحظة، فالكتاب يوحي من اسمه أنه يتكلم عن تاريخ حكماء الإسلام لكنا نجد أن بعض التراجم لرجال ليسوا على ملة الإسلام فلعل المؤلف رحمة الله تعالى يقصد الحكماء في العصر الإسلامي.
