سعى هذا الكتاب لأن يبين أن الفلسفة العربية كما تجلت في الفترة من القرن الثامن إلى القرن الخامس عشر هى جزء لا يتجزأ من التاريخ الفكري للإنسانية ويشهد على نجاح انتقال الفلسفة العربية إلى العالم الأوروبي هذا التجهيل نفسه نحن نستخدم اليوم حججا من فلسفة العصر الوسيط العربية دون أن نعرف أنه تمت صياغتها من حوالي عشرة قرون مضت في عالم يمتد من قرطبة إلى بغداد ويمكن أن نأخذ على سبيل المثال التمييز بين الجوهر والوجود الذي يسري في الفلسفة الكلاسيكية في القرنين السابع عشر والثامن عشر والذي صاغه فيلسوف القرن العاشر ابن سينا.
