على الرغم من أن مصطلح (الاضطرابات العُصابيَّة) لم يعد يستخدم في التصنيفات النفسية الحديثة المعتمدة دوليا، إلا أنه ما زال يحتفظ بمكانة مرموقة في البحوث والدراسات والمقالات في مجال الطب النفسي، ومن أجل تبسيط المعلومة وإيصالها للفئة المستهدفة بطريقة مألوفة آثرت على إبقاء هذا الباب الاصطلاحي مفتوحا لما له من إرث تاريخي مشهود على مر عصور التصنيف على الرغم من الاختلاف الظاهري في المسمى، إلا إن الهدف العلمي يسعى بكل جهد إلى تخفيف المعاناة والألم والضيق النفسي عن المرضى المبتلين باضطراب العصاب.
