هذه المقدمة إذا ليست إلا مجرد خواطر ... وذكريات ... وصور، جمعتها أشتاتا من ذاكرتي، صورة من هنا، وصورة من هناك ... والصورة الأولى أن الريحاني لم يكن مجرد ممثل يكسب عيشه من مهنة التمثيل، بل كان فيلسوفا وفنانا ... فنانا أصيلا عاش لفنه فقط، ولفي الاضطهاد والحرمان وشظف العيش في سبيل مثله العليا. كان الريحاني يمكن أن ينشأ موظف ناجح، وكان أهله يعملون لهذه الغاية. ولكن حب التمثيل كان يجري في دمه، فكان كل ما يكسبه من وظيفته ينفقه في إشباع هوايته، ثم دفعته هذه الهواية إلى هجر الوظيفة، مما أثار استياء أهله. وعانى في سبيل تحقيق حلمه التشريد والجوع والحرمان، وكان من فرط حبه لفنه يلجأ إلى الوظيفة كلما أعيته الحيل، ليجمع بعض المال الذي يتيح له العودة إلى التمثيل ... ولقد كافح الريحاني وجاهد حتى أنتصر.
