يبدأ الكتاب في الفصل الأول بمدخل إلى البنية البلورية للأجسام الصلبة وصولا إلى مفهوم المواد نصف الناقلة الأحادية البلورة، وفي الفصل الثاني تناول مبادئ ميكانيك الكم والنظرية الكمومية للأجسام الصلبة التي تفسر تكون قطاعات الطاقة التي تعتبر أساسا في تفسير الكثير من الظواهر الفيزيائية في الأجسام الصلبة، وتستوعب الفصول من الثالث حتى الخامس فيزياء المواد نصف الناقلة، والفصول الأخيرة خصصت لدراسة العناصر الإلكترونية.
