يفتتح كتاب «القصص» بذكريات الطفولة التي كتبت في صيف عام 1955، وتتبعها قصة «الفرح والناموس»، وهي قصة رمزية تتسم بأسلوب وبناء مثاليين، والقصة الأكثر شهرة في المجموعة هي «السيرانة» التي كتبت بعد رحلة على طول الساحل الجنوبي لصقلية، في قلب هذه القصة، في الحد الفاصل ما بين الواقعي والسريالي، تطالعنا شخصية العجوز لاتشورا الذي وقع حين كان شابا في حب حورية بحر فأصبح عاجزا بعده عن حب أية امرأة أخرى، ويختتم الكتاب بقصة «القطط العمياء» الأقرب من بين القصص الأربع إلى رواية «الفهد» من حيث الجوهر، وإن كانت قد كتبت كفصل أول من رواية كان يفترض أن تحمل الاسم نفسه.
