يجمع ابن حبيب النيسابوري في كتابه عقلاء المجانين أخبار وقصص محورها مجانين عقلاء في ظاهر الأمر يبدو هؤلاء الأشخاص غير عقلانيين، لكن نظرة فاحصة تبين أن لهم منطقا خاصا وأن سياق القصص يكشف أدوارا يود المجنون أن يؤديها، الأمر الذي يثير حفيظة من حوله أو شعورهم بالخيبة ونجد في آداب العديد من الأمم وفنونها عناية بثينة المجنون العاقل، من العصور القديمة إلى القرن الحادي والعشرين، وهو ما يدعو إلى كشف جسور التواصل بين الأدب العربي وغيره من الآداب وإلى دراسة الأدب العربي باعتباره جزءا من دراسة الأدب العالمي.
