\"عشتار ومأساة تموز\" بحث علمي يهدف إلى الكشف عن جانب مهم من جوانب المعتقدات عند سكان وادي الرافدين استنادا إلى الآثار والوثائق المسمارية سواء ما كان منها مدون بالسومرية أو الآشورية، ويستمد هذا البحث أهميته من حقيقة مهمة وهي أن المعتقدات المتعلقة بالآلهة عشتار وبالإله تموز قد طغت على غيرها في الشهرة لأنها ترتبط أساسا بطقوس الخصب التي كان من الضروري إقامتها لضمان عنصر الخصب في الطبيعة وتوفير الخيرات للمجتمع البشري. وهنا يكمن السر في الشهرة والأهمية التي اكتسبها كل من تموز وعشتار في مختلف العصور، وفي تسرب كثير من المفاهيم المتعلقة بهما إلى أنحاء بعيدة من العالم القديم.
