بنيت القصة وفق خطين سرديين متوازيين وكونا متنين اثنين، تحدث السارد في متن مسار الخط الأول عن شخصية أحمد القابع في بلدة عرسال اللبنانية، بعدما خرج من سوريا عن طريق جبال الزبداني، وعما جرى معه في زمن السرد الذي استغرق أسبوعا، إذ سرد فيه تجربة أحمد في بلدة عرسال، بعدما هجر من سوريا، منتظرا حضور مؤتمر للمعارضة السورية في القاهرة، ومعتزما أن يفضح فيه شخصيات سورية فاسدة تدعي قيادتها للشعب السوري بمواجهة سلطة النظام، وفي خط المسار السردي الثاني : وهو زمن السرد التاريخي كان السارد يخبر عن أحمد الذي يستذكر فيه لحظة فراره من معتقل السلطة الرهيب منذ أوائل تسعينيات القرن العشرين إثر استدعائه من سجن صيدنايا، والتحقيق معه حول ذبح صديقته ثريا، التي قتلوها نتيجة الحقد الطائفي.
