نشأ المقدس في الحياة منذ لحظة التكون والنشوء فلا وجود لحياة مقبولة ومتحركة إلا إذا استطاعت الجماعة من إنتاج تخيلاتها عن المقدس وتروج له وتشجع على تداوله وتبادله وتؤسس له عقائد متجاورة معه، بالإضافة إلى مزاولات وشعائر. هذه كلها تبتكر نوعا من الثقافة الدينية المهيمنة عبر المقدس فيها، متمثلا بوجود المعبد والآلهة، لحظتها يتحول تدريجيا إلى تمركز سلطة، ووسيلة ثقافية ودينية قادرة على قمع الجماعات وإخضاعها، بعدما كانت هي المسؤولة عن رسم الحدود الخاصة بالمقدس وجعلته حاضرا في محيطه الإجتماعي.
