هذا كتاب أردناه ردا على طه حسين بعد أن كتب، الشك في الشعر الجاهلي، سنة 1926... كانت الردود زمانها كثيرة سنتعرض لبعضها بعد هذا في الكتاب... لكننا اليوم، طرحنا السؤال : الشك؟ ألا يمكن أن يكون مجترا موضوع النحل والانتحال الذي تحدث عنه العرب قديما حتى أنهم قالوا إن كتاب وهب بن منبه (114 هـ/ 732 م)، التيجان في ملوك حمير، مثلا يطفح بالموضوع والمنحول. وسنتعرض لغيره بالإضافة طبعا لابن سلام الجمحي... أما المستشرقون، فالمشهور أن طه حسين تأثر بآراء المستشرق الأنقليزي مرغوليوث في الشك في صحة الشعر الجاهلي: لكن السؤال : هل اطلع طه حسين فعلا على مرغوليوث ؟ ألم يكن قد تأثر بغيره قبل أن يطلع على ما كتبه هذا المستشرق؟ إن مواقف المستشرقين معروفة إزاء العرب والإسلام والمسلمين.
