نوهت الكاتبة أن روايتها هذه مبنية على مقابلات شخصية، أجرتها عام (2018) مع صبحي البالغ من العمر 88 عاما، وهو يقيم حاليا في عمان، وشمس (85) عام المقيمة في يافا. تدور الأحداث حول قصة صبحي الذي وصفته الكاتبة \"أشطر ميكاكيني\" والذي اختار العمل ميكانيكيا عند مصطفى بأجرة (30) قرشا في اليوم منذ صيف عام (1947) رافضا أن يكون مزارعا كوالده أو صيادا مثل جده. يقوم معلمه باختياره للذهاب إلى بيارة الخواجا ميخائيل لإصلاح مضخة المياه، وفي الطريق يعده الخواجا ميخائيل إن تمكن من إصلاح المضخة أن يهديه بدلة من قماش إنكليزي فاخر ثمنها (8) جنيهات فلسطينية، فيصلح صبحي المضخة وينقذ موسم البرتقال لميخائيل ويحصل على البدلة التي يرتديها متباهيا بها وبطلته الأنيقة.
