تحكي هذه الرواية قصة حياة إنسان يحمل أمالا عريضة في وطن قلق. الشخصية الرئيسة ليست غريبة عن مجتمعنا والموضوع ليس بجديد، فالحرب هي الحرب. أما المرعب فهو واقع العيش بين ضحيتين ووضع مترد ووطن يتدهور. الضحيتان هما الأب والأم، وهما ظالمان أيضا. كل ضحية لسبب أو ظرف، وكل ظالم بعين الآخر. والتعاطف مع أحد الطرفين أمر دقيق وغير منطقي، فقد ترأف بالظالم الذي هو ضحية المكان الخطأ أكثر بكثير من الضحية الراضية بواقعها. وهذا أمر محزن !، الحرب ليست هي الوجع الوحيد في هذه الصفحات بل نظرة المجتمع المدمرة نتيجة وضع اجتماعي أو ديني ما. العنوان ليس عبثيا ولا شك أن مجتمعنا يتسم بعنصرية تتخفى وراء شفقة أو ابتسامة باردة. عنصرية تتحول إلى إستغلال واستعباد الآخر.
