تعتبر الفترة الزمنية (1888 م-1913 م) مرحلة مهمة في التاريخ العماني وهي تمثل حكم السلطان فيصل بن تركي الذي أشتد في عهده تنافس بريطانيا وفرنسا من أجل احتكار علاقات عمان الخارجية ومحاولة استغلال موقع عمان المتميز لرعاية مصالح مستعمراتهما في الشرق ونتج عن هذا التنافس عدة أزمات سياسية بين البلدين وتكمن أهمية الدراسة في أنها تكشف عن أوضاع عمان الداخلية خلال تلك الفترة وإنعكاساتها على علاقة عمان بكل من بريطانيا وفرنسا وعن حقيقة الأطماع البريطانية والفرنسية في عمان.
