Ildefonso Cerdá pasará a la historia como el fundador del urbanismo moderno. Hombre adelantado a su tiempo, fue capaz de unir sus dos pasiones, la ingeniería y la política, en un proyecto que llevaría su nombre: el plan del Ensanche de Barcelona o plan Cerdá. Nacido en una época en la que las condiciones de la clase obrera en las grandes urbes eran deplorables, dedicó su vida a crear un entorno mejor para los habitantes. Pese a la oposición de sus contemporáneos, diseñó una ciudad conforme a su ideal de justicia, igualdad y libertad. Un lugar limpio, repleto de luz y zonas verdes: la ciudad del futuro.
