تقدم الكاتبة منيرة اليامي مقاربة سوسيولوجية لظاهرة البطالة في المملكة العربية السعودية وتفعل ذلك بالرجوع إلى أسبابها ومن أهمها الذهنية التي يحملها المواطن السعودي عن قيمة العمل ونظرة المجتمع إلى العمل الذي يمارسه أيا كان موقعه بالإضافة إلى أسباب أخرى اقتصادية واجتماعية ومنها الاعتماد الكلي على العمالة الوافدة وانخفاض معدلات الأجور والسعودة الوهمية في القطاعين العام والخاص والاستثمار التجاري من خلال التستّر على الوافد من قبل الكفيل وغيرها من أسباب.
