وقد استهل -رحمه الله- تفسيره بمقدمة علمية قيمة تناول فيها نشأة علم التفسير وتطوره ومدارسه... وبين في ختامها أفضل التفاسير وأقرب طرق الفهم لكتاب الله المجيد. ثم تناول تفسير فاتحة الكتاب وأوائل سورة البقرة، بأسلوب دل على سعة آفاقه، وغزارة علمه، وأصالة تفكيره... وقد كان عزمه أن يكمل الطريق إلى آخره، ولكن الله تعالى اختار له الشهادة. وهو بعد في تفسير قوله تعالى: والذين يؤمنون بما أنزل إليك وما أنزل من قبلك... فجزاه الله أحسن الجزاء وتغمده برحمته ورضوانه.
