تدور معظم أحداث الرواية في شمال سيناء وتسرد حكاية أسرة بدوية تعيش في ديرة صغيرة بمنطقة بئر العبد من أربعينيات القرن العشرين وحتى عام 2015 في قالب اجتماعي مشوق، وتكتسب الرواية اسمها من الجدة \"غالية\" التي تقوم بدور الراوي في العمل وتحكي لأحفادها التغيرات الاجتماعية والسياسية والاقتصادية التي شهدتها سيناء على مدى العقود الماضية من خلال سيرة عائلتها، وقال المؤلف أحمد سليم إن روايته هي محاولة لتسليط الضوء على أبناء سيناء الذين يعيشون في بقعة غالية من أرض مصر لكن القليل يعرف عاداتهم وتقاليدهم وتفاصيل حياتهم ومشكلاتهم.
