يطرح غاليانو أسئلة التفكك الأسري والتنمر المدرسي والإدمان الكحولي والصحة النفسية والحب، وهو يفعل ذلك من خلال الأحداث التي ينخرط فيها بطلا الرواية والشخصيات الأخرى المتعالقة معهما، وهي أحداث يتجاور فيها الواقعي بالغرائبي ويختلط الحقيقي بالخيالي وترصد الحركات الخارجية والاعتمالات الداخلية للشخصيتين المحوريتين، وتنطلق من وضعية سلبية وتمر في تحولات مختلفة وتؤول إلى وضعية إيجابية، وبذلك نكون إزاء رواية تبشر بالضوء في نهاية الأفق، ولا توصد الأبواب دون السعادة التي تراهن عليها الشخصيتان المحوريتان لتربحا الرهان في نهاية المطاف، وذلك من خلال علاقة حب تمنح كلا منهما الإحساس بوجودها وتصالحها مع العالم وتخرجها من النفق المظلم، على أن بين هاتين الشخصيتين نقاط تشابه في النشأة والسلوك والمآل الأخير.
