إذا نظرنا إلى تكنولوجيا التعليم في إطار النظام التعليمي العام، نجد أنها نظام فرعي أو منظومة فرعية ذات أهداف تعليمية تتفق مع أهداف النظام التعليمي العام، وتحقق أهداف هذه المنظومة مجموعة متآلفة ومتفاعلة من العناصر المادية والبشرية المكونة للنظام، وتتفاعل منظومة تكنولوجيا التعليم الفرعية مع عناصر النظام العام وكذلك مع النظم الفرعية الأخرى فيه (المنظومات الفرعية) لتحقيق الأهداف المنشودة. ويمكن النظر إلى تكنولوجيا التعليم بوصفها نظاما أو منظومة تضم عناصر متعددة ومتكاملة لتحقيق أهداف النظام أو المنظومة تتمثل في : العناصر البشرية، والعناصر المادية، والأهداف، والمحتوى، والآلات والمواد التعليمية، والاستراتيجيات التعليمية، والتقويم. وفي هذا الكتاب نحاول أن نتناول مكونات منظومة تكنولوجيا التعليم، والأصول والأسس النظرية لها، مع وضع حدود فاصلة لبعض المفاهيم المتداخلة في منظومة أو مجال تكنولوجيا التعليم.
