امتطى سنان جواده بعد أن تأكد من حمل أمتعته جيدا، والفرحة تعلو محياه ؛ لأنه عائد اليوم إلى وطنه، بعد أن غاب عن أهله فترة طويلة، وقد انتهت مهمته، وحقق أرباحا كثيرة من تجارته. وبينما كان جواده يطوي الأرض طيا، راح سنان يفكر في عروسه، وأشرقت عيناه سعادة وهو يحصي تلك الهدايا التي أحضرها إليها من حرير الصين، وزیرجد بلاد فارس، وخواتم الألماس والزمرد، غير أن تلك السعادة التي كانت تعلو وجهه، لم تلبث أن اختفت، حين فكر في وعورة الدرب، ومخاطر تعرضه لقطاع الطريق، ذلك لأنه تخلف عن القافلة المسافرة إلى تركيا، واغتر سنان بشجاعته وبسلوكه الطريق أكثر من مرة ليقدم على السفر وحيدا.
