خلف الجبال في منطقة ظل المطر، كانت أشجار اللبان تتربع كأنها عروس جليت ليلة عرسها ؛ إذ إن أجود أنواع اللبان هو ذلك الذي كانت أشجاره تسقى بالندى، ولا يصيبها المطر، أما الأشجار القريبة من منطقة المطر فهي أقل جودة. هناك عاشت الملكة مريابا حياة هانئة وسعيدة في مملكتها الجديدة، ونسيت كل ما كان من أمر مملكتها الأولى وما وقع لها. وذات يوم بعد أن حل موعد القطاف، تهيأت المملكة كلها لاستقبال الناس، وحدث أن جني الوادي اختلط مع المسافرين بعد أن انضم إلى قافلة شدت رحالها إلى أرض الفار، وكان قد سمع عن مريابا ملكة شجر اللبان، وحديث الناس عن حسنها وجمالها، وطيبتها، ورجاحة عقلها، فشغلت ذهنه ولم يعد يفكر إلا فيها.
