هذه الرواية مقتبسة من قصة حياة الكاتبة حول هجرة عائلة تركية من \"بريزرن\" بصربيا إلى سويسرا ترويها الأبنة وتحكي ما تعرضت له مع أبيها وأمها وأخيها وأختها من تجارب وما شعرت به في مواقف مختلفة ولكن فجأة، يختفي والدها بشكل غير متوقع وتعاني أمها الوحدة والحزن، وخاصة بعد انتقالها إلى دولة جديدة بثقافة جديدة ومع كل كلمة ألمانية تسمعها، يزداد البعد والاشتياق للهوية القديمة وتلجأ الراوية الشابة أيضا بذلك إلى تذكر طفولتها المثالية في \"بريزرن\" أيام الدولة العثمانية، التي كان عليها أن تتركها مع عائلتها في سن العاشرة واللجوء إلى دولة أخرى.
