ورد في الكتاب : مشى الجميع يقتادهم الجنود في ليلة شديدة الظلام، وقد كان الحر شديدا في آب وقد أنهك الجميع العطش الشديد لقلة الماء بسبب الحصار، قيدوا أيديهم، وساقوهم خارج أسوار مالقة، أخذوهم تجاه البحر، والكل حزين في صمته، مضى الليل، وفاطمة لم يغف لها جفن رمت بنفسها على رمال الساحل، بعد إن لم تعد قادرة على الجلوس شعرت بأن السفن ستظهر من قلب المتوسط، لتأخذها هناك إلى عدوة المغرب، فبقيت تتابع صوت هدير أمواج البحر، الذي كان جادا قويا في ليلة صيفية، لم تتحرك بها الريح. ليبقى صوت الأمواج وحده يعلو ويلاطم الشطان.
