يجمع إبراهيم عبد القادر المازني في هذا الكتاب عددا من أهم مقالاته النقدية والأدبية التي تناولت آراءه فى كبار المفكرين من الشرق والغرب، كما تحدث فيها أيضا عن ذاته، وعن الكتب، وعن المشاعر الإنسانية، وعن أثر العمى في الغريزة النوعية، وضرب مثلا ببشار بن برد وأبي العلاء وكلاهما أعمى، وعرج قليلا نحو الفلسفة. كما تحدث عن أزمة كتاب «في الشعر الجاهلي» الذي ألفه طه حسين، وأثار عاصفة وزوبعة نقدية في ذلك الوقت. وتناول موضوعات أدبية متنوعة كالشعر والخطابة والتمثيل والتصوير، وحكى لنا أيضا عن رحلاته وذكرياته وأصدقائه والمرأة في حياته.
