جحا رجل عربي من مدينة البصرة في العراق صاحب نوادر كثيرة له باع طويل في عالـم مشهور بالضحك والمزاح وحب النوادر وتذوقها. وقد روى الحديث الشريف ولحق أنس بن مالك وقد ذكر أسم جحا في كتب التاريخ والحديث وقالوا إنه رجل يحب المزاح وقد جاء أسمه في الكتب قديما. وهو أبو الغصن دجين بن ثابت اليربوعي البصري معروف بجحا كان فتى ظريفا في بداية عمره وكان له جيران يمازحونه ويضحكون معه. وصفه الناس أحيانا بالذكاء والكياسة والظرف وأحيانا أخرى بالحماقة وبأنه كان من المغفلين.
