يؤرخ هذا الكتاب لأحد عشر عاما هي الأخطر في تاريخ النضال المصري لتحقيق الاستقلال عن الاحتلال البريطاني لأرضه، ولكي تصير مصر للمصريين في إطار مشروع نهضوي امتد إلى كافة المناحي الاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية. كان المؤلف أحد أبطال هذه الحركة الوطنية، وأحد المؤثرين بحكم كونه أحد أفراد الأسرة الحاكمة، كما كان أحد مؤرخيها الوطنيين المخلصين. يطلعنا المؤلف على بعض خفايا هذه الحركة وما دار في كواليسها، وهكذا يعد هذا الكتاب الذي صدر في أخريات حياته تتويجا لمؤلفاته التاريخية، وعطاء يضاف إلى عطائه السابق في مجال التدوين التاريخي.
