لقد جمع الإمام الغزالي (المتوفي سنة 505 هجرية) بين الريادة الفلسفية والموسوعسة الفقهية والنزعة الصوفية الروحية، واتسم بالذكاء وسعة الأفق وقوة الحجة وإعمال العقل وشدة التبصر مع شجاعة الرأي وحضور الذهن، كل ذلك أهله ليكون رائدا في تلك العلوم المختلفة والفنون المتباينة ؛ فكان الغزالي فيلسوفا وفقهيا وصوفيا وأصوليا، يحكمه في كل تلك العلوم إطار محكم من العلم الوافر والعقل الناضح والبصيرة الواعية والفكر الراشد، فصارت له الريادة فيها جميعا وأصبح واحدا من أعلام العرب الموسوعيين المعدودين. وإن هذا الكتاب النادر للإمام الغزالي قد جمع فيه الفتاوى التي سئل فيها من فقهاء عصره لغموضها عليهم، فأجاب عليها الإمام وأضحها لهم لتكون نبراسا ومرشدا للفقهاء من بعده.
