هذا الكتاب هو مجموعة رسائل للحافظ النسائي رحمه الله في علوم الحديث، فبدأ المؤلف كتابه بالحديث عن الإمام النسائي ومؤلفاته. ثم انتقل إلى صفة الراوي وشرائطه (الإسلام-التكليف-الضبط-العدالة)، وجاء الكتاب بسبعة رسائل منها في تسمية فقهاء الأمصار من الصحابة فمن يعدهم، الطبقات، تسمية من لم يرو عنه غير رجل واحد، ذك من حدث عنه ابن أبي عروبة ولم يسمع منه وغيرهم.
