إن ظاهرة العنف ضد المرأة تعتبر من المعضلات الاجتماعية التي عمت وفشت في أغلب الدول، وتعتبر انتهاكا صارخا لحقوقها وكرامتها الإنسانية، حيث يتعدى هذا العنف من قبل البعض إلى أن يصل الضرر بها جسديا ونفسيا وعقليا وأسريا، فيسبب في تعطيل دورها ومسارها في الحياة الاجتماعية وضمان حقها في الحرية والثقافة والحياة الآمنة، والتعبير عن آرائها، واختيار رغباتها، وتربية الأجيال، وانخراطها في النمو الحضاري للمجتمع. ونظرا لأهمية الموضوع، ولما له من علاقة بحقوق الإنسان، والدفاع عن كرامة المرأة التي هي نصف المجتمع والمدرسة الأولى لتربية العظماء؛ فقد ألفت فيه كتب ومقالات، كما وألقيت فيه ندوات ومحاضرات وأقيمت فيه مسيرات ومظاهرات سلمية لرد الاعتبار، والضرب على يد المنتهكين لحقوقها وكرامتها. ومن هذه الكتب التي تناولت هذا الموضوع كتابنا هذا، الذي يقدم مزيدا من التوضيح حول موضوع العنف الموجه ضد المرأة لمعرفة جذوره وأسبابه، للتمكن من استئصاله وعلاجه.
