يعد هذا الكتاب من أوسع كتب النسب وأدقها فقد استفاد المصنف ابن حزم من جميع الكتب التي سبقته في الأنساب والتراجم والرجال واستخلص منها مادة كتابه هذا كما أشار المؤلف إلى الأحداث التاريخية والقبلية والأدبية بدقة والتزام وذكر المدن التي تجمهرت فيها القبائل العربية وقدم بعض الملاحظات التي تشير إلى سبب تسمية هذه البلدان وتكلم ابن حزم في المفاخرة بين عدنان وقحطان بالإضافة إلى قضاعة وحصر أنساب العرب في هؤلاء الثلاثة كما قد قدم دراسة قيمة عن نسب بني إسرائيل معتمدا على التوراة.
