يتناول الكاتب بشار إبراهيم في كتابه الموسوم، وكما يدل العنوان، كيف تناول الكتاب الروائيون صورة المخيم الفلسطيني من خلال مجموعة كبيرة من الروايات بلغ ستا وثلاثين رواية فلسطينية صدرت مند خمسينيات القرن العشرين الميلادي حتى أواخره، الكتاب جاء تحت عناوين رئيسة عدة، تبدأ من النظرة إلى المخيم في الواقع الفلسطيني منذ ظهوره إثر نكبة فلسطين والعرب عام 1948، وآليات نشوء المخيم في الواقع، وأبرز سماته، وإحصاءات سريعة حول عدد السكان الفلسطينيين فيه، بما يشكل صورة مادية واقعية عن هذا الموضوع على الأرض قبل الذهاب لرؤيته في الرواية، كما يتناول الكتاب حقيقة وجود المخيمات خارج الوطن العربي والمخيمات داخله ومخيمات تخضع لسلطات عربية ومخيمات تخضع لسلطات الاحتلال ومخيمات أخرى.
