يعلق المؤلف المناقشات النظرية ليرى الإنجازات الاشتراكية كيف تطبق، أو يمكن تطبيقها في الواقع بحيث تستجيب لحاجات الشعب الملحة، فتحقق في الوقت ذاته العدالة والحرية. فالكتاب إذا مجموعة من الملاحظات تتناول مشكلات التمويل الاشتراكي كلها، بأسلوب أدبي ساخر يثقف القارىء ويسليه. والمؤلف عالم اجتماعي فرنسي، وأستاذ في الكوليج ده فرانس، فهو يعرف التراث الاشتراكي العلمي برمته، ولكنه يتناوله من منظور غير المنظور التقليدي الكلاسيكي. فكتابه مفيد للأخصائي وللقارىء العادي. والترجمة جيدة، تكاد تحاذي النص في رشاقته، وتضيف إليه جزالة الأسلوب العربي ومتانته، وهي بهذا المعنى إضافة لا يستهان بها إلى المكتبة العربية .
