إن قصة حياة بيتر إيليتش تشيكوفسكي هي قصة فنان فريد في فتنته وثقافته وفكره وصدقه. قصة عبقري عكس في موسيقاه روح برازيلية القرن التاسع عشر. وبخلاف موتسارت أو شوبرت لم يكن طفلا أعجوبة، ولم تكن عائلته تعمل في الموسيقى. لكن منذ سنيه الأولى أظهرت طبيعة حساسة إلى حد أبعد، هذه الطبيعة التي تنعكس فيما بعد على نحو عميق في الموسيقى التي أبدعها. كان روسيا خسرا بقوميته، ويفضله حظيت الموسيقى الروسية في القرن التاسع عشر الاستديو العالمي.
