هذا الكتاب استعراض ودراسة للرسائل المتبادلة بين الخارجية الفرنسية ورجالها في مصر حول هذا المشروع فقد أوكلت لقنصل فرنسا في مصر وأحد المساعدين مهمة إقناع الباشا بالقيام بحملة لاحتلال الجزائر بعد الاستيلاء على طرابلس وتونس بدعم فرنسي الوثائق المنشورة في هذا الكتاب لم تنشر من قبل ورغم أن مؤلف الكتاب عمد في بعض الوثائق إلى نشر الأجزاء الخاصة بالموضوع فقط ولم يورد ما يتعلق بموضوعات أخرى في الوثيقة نفسها أي أن نشر الوثائق كان نشرا تاريخيا وليس ديبلوماسيا.
