تدور هذه الرواية حول سيرة كاتبها الذاتية بوجهيها الواقعي والنفسي، وبتجربته الشخصية في إدراك واقع عصره، والانطلاق منه إلى تأمل وضع البشرية ؛ كما تتميز بثورتها الأسلوبية والجمالية، حيث كتب الكثير عن أسلوب سيلين ضمن النزعة العدمية، ورأى (برناتوس) بأن عدمية سيلين منحازة للفقراء، ورأى آخرون أن الثورة الحقيقية للثقافة الفرنسية تعيش وتحلق وتتدفق من خلال أسلوب سيلين ؛ وتتميز هذه الرواية بثورتها الأسلوبية والجمالية، وقد كتب الكثير عن أسلوب سيلين منذ صدور الرواية عام 1932 فصنف فرويد أسلوب سيلين ضمن النزعة العدمية، ورأى برناتوس بأن عدمية سيلين منحازة إلى الفقراء، وأكد ثرونسكي بأن الثورة الحقيقية للثقافة الفرنسية تعيش وتخفق وتتدفق من خلال أسلوب سيلين.
