يأتى كتاب \"تاريخ الآداب الأوروبية\" فى ثلاثة أجزاء، كتبه ما يزيد على مئة وخمسين كاتبا من جميع أنحاء أوروبا حتى يسلطوا الضوء على مناطق معتمة من أوروبا مثل النهضة فى بولونيا وأعمال \"فريسيوس مودريغيوس\"\"، وكذلك \"الأنوار\" فى اليونان و\"ريغاس فيرايوس\" ، وليمنحوا كل كاتب المكانة التى يستحقها بعد أن قلل من شأن الكثير من الأدباء الأوروبيين أمثال النرويجى \"داغ سولستاد\" واللتوانى \"فيزما بيلسفيكا\"، وليزيلوا الحواجز عن الثقافة الأدبية. إن العمل الأدبى يندرج فى وحدة ثقافية ذات بعد أوروبى عالمى، إن نقاط الالتقاء بين الآداب الأوروبية تظهر على طول فصول هذا الكتاب، فلذة القراءة قائمة على معرفة الكاتب والعمل الأدبى الجيد.
