ينطوي على رواية تدور أحداثها في مدينة عنابة (بونة إبان الحقبة الاستعمارية)، تضع القارئ آنذاك وحتى اليوم في الأجواء التي كان يعيشها الإنسان الجزائري البسيط في كل مدينة جزائرية كعنابة، حيث مؤثرات النمط الأوربي قد طغت على الجو العام. فالعم محمد والطفل هادي والسكير إبراهيم وزوجته كانوا يمثلون الشعب الجزائري بكل فئاته، فالعم محمد يمثل الأصالة المتجذرة في الأمة، ويمثل إبراهيم مع انحرافه عن الطريق السليم الجيل الذي احتك وعايش المجتمع الأوربي في الجزائر، حيث كان في حيرة من أمره. فما تعلمه صغيراً وغاص في أعماقه لا يتناسب بما يطفو على السطح مع أحاسيسه العميقة.
