In May 2022, the Royal Swedish Academy of Science released a paper that measured fourteen European countries on three factors: biodiversity, wellbeing, and nature connectedness. Britain came last in every single one. The study concluded that without adequate connection to nature, our population would suffer significant mental and physical health decline, which would in turn make us less inclined to protect the environment. In other words, our health and the wellbeing of nature are intrinsically dependent on the other.
