تدور أحداث الرواية حول حرب السولجر، نزلت كتيبتين من الجيش الإنجليزي إلى دبي في 23 ديسمبر 1910، وتوجه الإنجليز إلى بيت الشيخ أحمد بن دلموك والتاجر ثاني بن خلف للتفتيش عن أسلحة يعتقد بأنها تخبئ عندهما، اقتحموا البيتين وقتلوا بعض من فيهما، واعتلوا الأسطح لمنع العرب من نجدة إخوانهم، فهب أهل دبي لنجدتهم ودارت معركة كبيرة دامية قتل وجرح فيها العشرات. بطلة الرواية الشاعرة هداية الساچوب، تتذكر الحادثة وصمود الشيخ بطي بن سهيل المكتوم حاكم دبي وقتها، وتحكي عن حوادث تاريخية مهمة في دبي وفي الخليج العربي، ومنها سقوط جزيرتي لنجة وهنيام في يد الفرس. بالإضافة إلى أنها تصور الواقع الحياتي والمعيشة لأهل دبي في ذلك الوقت.
