هذا الكتاب هو محاولة لاقتراح أسلوب مختلف للتفكير في شأن الثورات العربية، يقوم على عدم التركيز على النخب والدولة وتغيير الأنظمة السياسية فحسب، بل ينظر أيضا إلى ما تعنيه الثورة للناس العاديين والفقراء والشبيبة المهمشة والنساء والجماعات الدنيا الأخرى في حياتهم اليومية. لذا لا تقتصر قراءة الثورات في هذا الكتاب على ما حدث في القمة بل إنها تروي وتحلل ما كان يحدث في القاعدة كذلك في المزارع والمصانع والأحياء الفقيرة وأحزمة البؤس وضمن العائلات وفي المدارس؛ وفي العلاقات الاجتماعية التي تحكمها التراتبيات القديمة، وفي ذاتيات البشر وممارسات الحياة اليومية. في هذا السياق لا يقتصر التحليل على ما فعلته الثورة بماجريات الحياة اليومية، بل يتناول أيضا إلى ما فعلته الحياة اليومية بالثورة.
