ما هذه المجموعة القصصية سوى محاولات لسبر أغوار بعض أعماق حقيقتنا هي في بعضها قصصها عبارة عن تجربة للوصول إلى نقطة بداية إدراكنا وتلك النقطة التي تجبرنا على التوقف وتأمل ماهيتنا أحيانا وتتألف المجموعة من خمسة عشرة قصة قصيرة يحمل كل منها عنوانا رئيسيا بكلمة واحدة تارة، \"الإدراك\"، \"الأصلع\" أو بكلمتين تارة أخرى،\"كلب سيدته\"، \"قوة الموت\"، وقد يأتي العنوان، كذلك مذيلا بعبارة بليغة، مثل\"المطلعون على خبايا الأمور\"، \"زواج عن حب كبير\"، وتشكل هذه القصص أبنية سردية مراوغة، يلعب فيه الراوي العليم الدور الرئيسي، فيما تهيمن عليها ومجموعة من المحاور الدلالية التي تمكن من قراءة النص في مكنوناته الداخلية وفي كل هذا استكناه عوالم محمد خميس الروائية الطريفة والممتعة والعميقة في آن.
