يتناول كتاب الصحافة الحزبية والوحدة الوطنية في السودان 1945-1969 م حيث يمثل موضوع الوحدة الوطنية، قطب الرحى الذي يدور من حوله تاريخ السودان المعاصر، وذلك منذ أن قامت مملكة الفونج كأول حكومة وطنية في عام 1504 م. وإذا كان العرب قد ادخلوا اللغة العربية، والدين الإسلامي في السودان، فإنهم كذلك أدخلوا فيه الحياة القبلية التي ألفوها في بلادهم حتى ليمكن القول إن قيام مملكة الفونج، كان على أساس حلف قبلي بين قبيلتي الفونج والعبدلاب.
